2013-10-12 Saturday & Sunday
Susan and I eased into the day. Caught the 12:15 pm ferry from Port Townsend to Whidbey Island (Coupville).
Took a right off the ferry and discovered a great county park just south of the ferry. Then we meandered toward Freeland. The Senior Center Thrift Store there was having a big blow out sale. It is a huge two story building. Great feeling.
There were lots of fall colors at Port Gamble but not so much on Whidbey.
We stayed at the Coachman Inn at Oak Harbor. Got a room with 2 queens and a kitchenette for $90/night. Great place, excellent breakfast – biscuits and gravy with eggs and more. Don’t forget to ask for the AARP discount.
Brea, the night clerk as traded for her giving me her iphone-5 ear buds. Great connection.
The morning clerk let us do a 2 pm late checkout.
Sunday morning we headed north. Deception Pass State Park – got a few good pix. Susan found the eagle pair living there. There were only a couple of other cars there.
We crossed the bridges and took a left on Rosario Road. A couple miles up we discovered Rosario Bay. It is part of Deception Pass State Park. Not well marked. The signage says it is a Marine Biology study center. I think the road is marked Cougar Gap Road. We really, really LOVE this place. Small but so beautiful. Great feel. Got tons of great pix.
On the way back we stopped at the Carlton Farm to check out their fall harvest and corn maze. Got some great pix of old machinery and pumpkins.
When we decided to head back, we got to the ferry just before 3:30 pm. We paid, rolled right onto the ferry – we were the last car. The ferry pulled away from the dock as we were walking upstairs to the passenger deck. Such timing.
