Riding the Ferry to Orcas Island…

The Ferry to Orcas IslandThe trip was less than an hour.  The people near us were interesting.  A mom was practicing violin with her son – using the Suzuki method.  Good stuff. Dog had to be in the middle of it too.

We docked just after 11am.  There’s not much at the docks.

Landing on Orcas IslandWe had reservations at the Pebble Cove Farm, but our rooms wouldn’t be ready for a couple of hours. So we went adventuring.

First we headed to East Sound, a delightful village.

From there we scooted on to Olga then to Doe Bay. Interesting resort there. Decided it was time to find our lodgings on Deer Harbor. When we reached East Sound, we were back in cell service area and got a voice mail from Lydia at Pebble Cove Farms saying our rooms were ready.

There was a lot of mist and fog over most of the island that we traveled.  The Deer Harbor area, however, was sunny.  Micro-climates, go figure.

Lydia greeted us warmly and helped us unload the car.  When she left, one of the chickens came to our door to do a meet and greet.  She had a lot to say.  Talked with Susan for a good ten minutes while I unpacked.Chicken meet and greetI didn’t have my hearing aids in, so I missed most of the conversation.  I did hear something about her hearing about us over the “chicken wire” ( ref: Chicken Poop 4 the Sole ).

We love our “Family Suite” – on this nippy January night, the fireplace is a comfort.  Hot tub under the stars! Haven’t done that since we left Sedona.
