We got on the road about 8am, light rain.  We stopped for breakfast in Allyn about an hour south of Bainbridge.  Ate at Lennard K’s Boat House – really good, lots of leftovers for the road.

Our next stop was in Raymond.  Lots of rusted metal sculptures around town.  We found an old boat dock on the south end along the Willapa River.  The old boat called JOKER intrigued me.

Just down the road we came across a 20 foot mound of oyster shells peppered with seagulls.

Saw a mated pair of bald eagles just before entering Long Beach.  We tried getting a place to stay there, but it was their annual Clam festival – one weekend only – this one.  There was no vacancy no where.  We meandered up the peninsula as far as we could go, driving through Ocean Park.   Around 3pm we stopped for lunch at the Berry Patch, a delightful local diner.  As we drove out of Long Beach, not far from the bridge to Astoria, we saw another pair of bald eagles fishing in the mud flats.

A little over an hour driving  brought us to Cannon Beach.  More quiet than Seaside, quaint and local – no major chain stores here.  REALLLLLY like it here.  Lots of places to stay.  We got a nice room at The Waves Motel; kitchenette, fireplace and a view of the ocean.

Cannon BeachThis is the perfect getaway for us.   We’ll spend two nights here.
